L'HISTOIRE DE FLOWMON EN DIX DATES IMPORTANTES
It all started with a scientific project developed under the auspices of CESNET. The aim of the project involved developing a monitoring probe for the fastest networks in the world. Networks which in fact enable the internet to function and companies to operate more effectively. As historical overviews often show, good things can finally get to the top, and the project led to the creation of Invea-Tech (the original name). The founders with great ideas, Jiří Novotný, Jan Kořenek, Pavel Čeleda and Jiří Tobola, did not, however, know much about business. This gap was filled in by an experienced manager, Rostislav Vocilka, who became the company CEO.
THE FIRST HQ
The first company headquarters was an office in the South Moravian Innovation Centre where the company came to as a start-up of Masaryk University and the Brno University of Technology. It was 2007 and Invea was one of the first companies in the Czech Republic where a university was involved. The photo shows Jiří Tobola, now Vice President of the company, expertly assembling a table.
THE SECOND YEAR IN PROFIT
By 2008, the small enterprise from Brno had its first tens of customers and was generating a profit. The company’s technologies which used the monitoring of so-called flow data (Flowmon – flow data monitoring) were deployed in particular by telecoms operators, defence institutions and the university sector. In the Czech Republic this was new, and so it was necessary to invest heavily in awareness raising campaigns.
PREMIERE IN GARTNER
In 2010, the most respected analytical agency in the field of IT, Gartner, took notice of Flowmon. The analysts were attracted by the tool for detecting anomalies and unwanted behaviour in networks (Network Behaviour Analysis, NBA) and Invea became the only European company in a study of the NBA market. One small step for the world's largest research agency in the industry, but one great leap for the then Invea whose business was propelled by it. In 2015, Gartner identified Flowmon again in the NPMD magic quadrant as the only company in the world that developed solutions based on NetFlow for operational monitoring and security at the same time.
After several years Flowmon had completed several major projects and had a dominant position in the Czech Republic. Flowmon entered the foreign market, and besides European destinations went for Japan with its very demanding and technologically driven market. It took two years before this paid off. But in the end, Flowmon became one of the few European companies in Japan to succeed.
FEEDING A GROWING APPETITE
In 2013, the company acquired AdvaICT whose ADS product became Flowmon ADS. Evil tongues claimed this was due to a shortage of scissors and paper staplers at Invea. The truth is that Invea gained a team of people behind one of the key products of the company (many of them are still at Flowmon) and a new technical director, Pavel Minařík (in the photo).
FULL STEAM AHEAD
At the end of 2014, the company doubled its turnover and the analysts from Deloitte assigned it as one of the fastest growing technology companies in Europe. The photo shows Michal Fránek and Petr Špringl (on the left) looking at the bright future of network monitoring (originally designed for a recruitment campaign :-)).
While the company so far multiplied its turnover, the number of employees, customers and partners, in 2015, it decided to split up into two separate companies. Flowmon Networks continued in the area of monitoring and analysis of networks. Netcope Technologies focused on FPGA technology. Both companies finally had a clear image and did not have to explain to partners how both technologies were related to each other :-).
MOVING to a bigger space
The big split-up finally gave promise to more office space. But instead, the reality was the opposite as new colleagues increased quickly. After 10 years, therefore, Flowmon left the ‘Palacky Hill’ (‘Palacký Vrch’) and moved ‘down the hill’ to the modern space of VTP Unis. Prior to this, Flowmon managed to acquire the company FerretApps and set up a new division for application monitoring. The company had channel partners and customers on five continents, and its tools, according to independent analysts, were ranked among very best in the industry.
VISION FOR 2027
In cooperation with our R & D partners, we will continue to strengthen the position of being a technological pioneer and leader in the field of network security and visibility. This is the vision we want to fulfil in the next 10 years.
